I cannot imagine my life without them.

FAQ
What is a zine?
A zine is a self-published booklet, usually fan-made and P4P featuring, art, short stories, and merch revolving around a central fandom, character, or ship. What is the theme of this project?
The theme of this zine is Opposites, but Complementary. We feel this theme really highlights the core of FengQing. Potential combinations that would fall under this theme are, but not limited to: sun/moon, light/dark, night/day, summer/winter, bow/sword, cat/dog, fire/ice, angel/demon, dragon/phoenix, east/west, calamity/god, god/deputy, past/present, deity/mortal, earth/heaven, sea/land, gold/silver, blue/orange, city/country, etc. What are the specs for this zine?
The zine will be an A5 hardcover booklet. Page number will depend on the number of artists and writers accepted, but we estimate page count to be around 220 pages! The zine will also feature sprayed edges and a slipcase. How many contributors will there be?
There will be 10 writers, between 30-35 artists, 5-8 spot artists, and 3-5 merch artists. We will also select several pinch hitters from our applicant pool. Can my piece have other characters besides Feng Xin and Mu Qing in it?
Yes! Art pieces and fics can include other characters, but make sure FengQing is the focus! We will not be accepting content that depicts FengQing with other characters romantically (unless there is brief mention of a past relationship like Feng Xin and Jian Lan). What is the selection process like?
For writers, we will be looking for understanding of grammar/sentence structure/formatting, along with compelling characters, well-developed plot, and emotional resonance.
For artists, we are looking for overall skill and understanding of light, color schemes, composition, and anatomy. How will contributors be compensated?
It is our goal to provide every contributor with a free physical version of the zine (shipping included) along with a free digital version. Physical merch and shipping will have to be purchased separately, unless sales do really well and we can cover one or both of these too.
It is our main goal to be able to provide each contributor with a free physical zine, however due to the unpredictability of sales, we may not be able to fulfill that goal. However we can guarantee all our contributors will get a free digital zine and will be able to purchase the zine and merch at production cost. How will mods and contributors communicate over the course of the zine?
We will be communicating through our FengQing Zine discord server. Please note to take part in the zine, you need to be able to communicate with mods through discord. If there is a unique circumstance you cannot access discord, reach out to Artemis to set an alternative means of communication up.How much of a commitment will this zine be?
Participating in any zine is a time commitment, so please ask yourself before signing up if you have the time to give to the zine, not only in creating a fic, merch, or art, but in submitting check ins and communicating with the mods. We understand sometimes things happen and you will need to drop out, hence why we have pinch hitters, however for things to run as smoothly as possible we want to make sure we have contributors who are able to fully commit to the zine and keep to the designated timeline. If you do need to drop out, notify us immediately so we can give our pinch hitters as much time as possible. Furthermore, if check-ins are ignored and you have not reached out to a mod in the designated time frame, unfortunately we will have to drop you. The final deadline is nonnegotiable.

Yes, we are looking for a few, specific items to offer for this zine. We really want the main focus on this project to be the zine, thus will only offer a few select merch items. We would like to offer a pin or pin set and a multi-pieced standee/hinged standee or an acrylic block. We are open to other merch items like stickers, shikishis, tarot cards, keychains, etc.Do I need merch experience to be a merch artist?
You are welcome to apply without any experience, however we would prefer artists to have experience making merch for items like pins and acrylics.
